COVID-19 RESPONSE

GERA is adapting to the realities of this pandemic. This is a particularly difficult time for GERA communities, many of whom have been hard hit by job losses and some of whom are not eligible for relief recently offered by the federal government.

We will update this page with resources and information, and we will continue to advocate for our communities. COVID-19 Response  page includes resources and information for GERA's mission-related issues and programs affected by COVID-19.

There are 13,811 new immigrant households recorded across 103 of the 111 Utah zip codes

with the Department of Workforce Services office. According to the immigrants client data provided by AAU, the average immigrant household size in Utah is 3.31. Therefore, it can be

estimated that there are approximately 45,714 new immigrants in Utah.

Immigrants need basic support and help with integrating into a

new world . They need to get engaged and be known in the communities they

live in or they can become too isolated.

GERA is a community-organizing model led by refugees.  GERA is a coalition of 34 different subcommunities in Utah. The communities organized after seeing a need for additional support and services beyond the scope of existing resettlement agencies. The organization focuses on services that support culture needs as well as helping community members become self sufficient early in the process of integration.
